EVENT RULES
Scores must be reported to the team captain and logged no more than 2 weeks after the scoring flight. Any late scores will not be counted.
New Years Bonus
Only flights occurring after 12 midnight on Dec. 31, 2005 may be declared. Pilot declaring their flight must be a member of a declared team - no 'retroactive' declarations. Declared flight may occur at any site. 'Soaring flight' must be a minimum of 30 mins. airtime, and begins when the pilot leaves the ground and ends when they land (duh!) For flights exceeding 30 mins. in duration, 1 point is awarded for each additional minute of airtime (for example, a 45 minute flight is worth 35 points, or 20 points for the first 30 mins. plus 15 points for the next 15 minutes). Declared time is the time of launch of a successful soaring flight.Only one pilot per team may declare their flight. Any declared flights occurring within an hour of each other will be considered a tie, in which case all teams fulfilling the above requirements within 60 mins. of each other will be awarded all earned points. Once a flight is claimed, the bonus can no longer be claimed by another competitor (except as in the previous rule) for the remainder of the year.
Cross Country
Fly XC from any site. For the first five miles (measured directly from launch to landing) you get ten points. For each additional mile you land from launch, rounded down to the nearest mile, you get another point. For example, if you fly 12-1/2 miles you get 17 points (10 points for the first 5 plus 7 for the next 7-1/2 (rounded down)).
Out-and-back
Fly out and return to the LZ associated with the site from which you launched. For the first five miles (measured directly from launch to goal) you get ten points. For each additional mile you fly from launch, rounded down to the nearest mile, you get another point. For example, if you fly 5 miles out you get 10 points. If you keep going and fly another 7 miles, turn around and fly the 12 miles back to the LZ, you get 29 points (10 points for the first 5 plus 19 for the next 19 miles. If you land in an LZ not associated with the site, your flight may be counted as a Cross Country flight (if it's 5 miles plus from launch), but not an Out-and-back.
Duration
Get ten points for each hour of airtime from launch to landing (rounded down). For example, if you have a 2-1/2 hour flight you get 20 points. Stay up an extra half-hour and get 30 points.
Quantity
Get 5 flights minimum of any distance or duration with a vertical drop of 500' or more within a 24-hour period and get ten points, plus a point for each additional flight completed during the period. For example, if you get 7 flights in one day you get 12 points (10 for the first 5 plus 2 for the next 2).
Altitude Gain
For each 1,000' over launch you earn 10 points, rounded down to the closest 1000'. Simple enough - gain 2000 and get 20 points, gain 3,500 and get 30 points (rounded down).
Pioneering Bonus
Gain 50 points for being the first to fly a new site. Of course, the launch and LZ must be gained through landowner's permission. If members of different teams pioneer a site within 60 minutes of each other, both earn the bonus.
Rating Bonus
For each rating advance (for example, H2 to H3 or P3 to P4) you get 50 points. Same goes for advancing to a different wing (for example P3 to H1 or H3 to P1). Ratings must be officially validated by a qualified instructor or observer and recognized by USHG(P)A.
